About Crooked Finger Farm
I'm Melissa — the plant lady of the operation. Growing plants has been in my blood for as long as I can remember. I seem to have a natural sense for what plants need to thrive, though I'll be the first to tell you that the plants are always teaching me something new. That sense of wonder never gets old.
By day, I'm a Registered Nurse specializing in psychiatric care. I work in a hospital on a unit dedicated to stabilizing patients in acute mental health crisis — some of the most vulnerable moments in a person's life. It's meaningful, demanding work, and it has given me a deep, firsthand understanding of something I believe in completely: environment matters. The spaces we inhabit have a profound effect on how our minds heal.
Plants are part of that. A living, breathing, growing thing in your space does something that no paint color or piece of furniture can quite replicate. It grounds you. It gives you something to tend to. It reminds you that growth — even slow, quiet growth — is always happening. I've seen it in clinical settings and I've felt it in my own home.
That's the heart of what Crooked Finger Farm is about. It's not just plants — it's the belief that a thoughtfully curated living space can genuinely support your wellbeing.
How It All Started
I have been interested in growing plants for as long as I can remember. When I discovered that rare tropical varieties could be sourced online, everything shifted. My creative mind opened up completely. Since then I've been using tropical houseplants — Anthurium hybrids, Hoyas, Monsteras, and more — to build serene, living indoor spaces throughout our home, always pushing into more advanced varieties, always watching in quiet amazement as they grow.
What We Grow
Crooked Finger Farm is a licensed basement nursery where I propagate my own home-grown cuttings and create unique Anthurium hybrids. Every plant that leaves here has been grown and cared for by hand, in a space where the plants are known individually — not as inventory.
This shop exists to share that work with other plant lovers: people who appreciate the rare, the unusual, and the living art that a well-chosen tropical can bring into a home.
Licensed nursery. Grown with care. Shipped with intention.
Thanks for being here. The plants are glad you came.
